We will travel to the Otways hinterland a few kilometres out of Lorne. The GFNC have in past undertaken field excursions in this area, but on this excursion we will look to see what flora and fauna we might find in out of the way locations in the very beautiful and amazing Otways.  We will gather at the Big Hill Campground on the Deans Marsh -Lorne Rd and walk along a forest track. There is a pond nearby so we might hear the Otway Smooth Frog or see some wet-forest skinks.
We will move to a second site for lunch - a cleared grassland area along a powerline easement surrounded by forest – an excellent site for butterflies and other invertebrates. If time permits, we will cap off the day with a short walk to the nearby Eskine Falls.

Meet at 9:45 for a 10:00 start at Big Hill Campground.  12 Km from Deans Marsh 11 km from Lorne. The campsite has pit toilets.

Bring suitable footwear for some walking in forest and grass areas, mosquito repellent, and picnic lunch.

Location Big Hill Campground: near Lorne
The gravel roads we will be travelling on for the journey following Big Hill Campground are suitable for normal drive vehicles but can be impacted if heavy rains / weather conditions are poor just prior to the excursion.
